Village Vision's Winter Newsletter
Hello! This past year and a half has been a challenge for all of us navigating the uncertainty of COVID-19. However, we at Village Vision have been diligently working towards our mission and vision of developing a planned community for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Here are some highlights of what we have been busy doing:
Land
For the past year, we have been diligently looking for land and reviewing all prospects that would fit our community needs. We were under contract to purchase two properties, one in Mt. Pleasant and the other in West Ashley, but were unable to close due to the results of the due diligence process.
We encountered problems with zoning, wetlands, quality of soil, and parcel placement. As discouraging as this has been we have become more knowledgeable in the purchase and development of real estate.
We are still actively searching for a minimum of 3 acres of land zoned for single or multi-family development and near employment opportunities for our residents. If you know of a potential property or a developer wanting to work with a non-profit, please contact Timme Spanos at 843-367-8025.
Run
Come join us for our 2nd Annual 5k Walk/Run at Palmetto County Park in Mount Pleasant on Saturday, March 19th. The event will begin at 9:00am at the Sweet Gum Shelter and will take place along the paved Bicycle Trail as well as the Nature Island Trail. Strollers are welcome on the paved trail; however, they are not permitted on the Nature Island Trail as it is narrow, has areas of uneven terrain and occasional roots sticking out along the dirt path.
You may register via our Events page or in person on the morning of the Walk/Run. The cost is $25, and a Village Vision 2nd Annual 5k Walk/Run t-shirt is included in the registration fee.
Plan on sticking around afterwards to listen to some live music presented by Palmetto Music Therapy Services, bid on some fabulous merchandise at our silent auction, enjoy a cold brew from a local brewery, and nibble on some snacks.
We can't wait to see you there wearing your Village Vision t-shirts! Bring along your 4-legged furry friends for some exercise and bonding time.
Volunteers
Village Vision is looking for volunteers for our fundraising, and marketing/media committees. If you are interested, please contact kbrooks@sosCareSC.org.
Brrrrr Y'all!!!
